Family Court Support Worker training initiative

Luke’s Place trains and supports Ontario’s Family Court Support Workers. We also provide Family Court Support direct services in the Durham Region. Funded by the Ministry of the Attorney General, the program provides services to people who have experienced partner abuse and are involved in the family court system.

More information about Family Court Support Workers and how to find one in your community is available on the Attorney General website. Close to 100 FCSWs are available in family courts throughout the province.

Luke's Place training website with the Family Court Support Workers Discussion AreaThe program began in Fall 2011 when Luke’s Place was first contracted to provide professional development to frontline workers who were supporting abuse survivors involved in family court. We deliver an annual training event and provide continuous online support through the Luke’s Place Training website. On the website, FCSWs can access:

  • Peer support and clarification on legal issues through discussion forums moderated by a family law lawyer
  • The FCSW Manual, online training activities, extensive legal information and resources for clients
  • Program tools developed by FCSWs

FCSWs also receive weekly announcements from Luke’s Place about important court cases, law reform initiatives, training opportunities and other related information.

Francophone training and resources are delivered by Action ontarienne contre la violence faite aux femmes. The French language discussion area is hosted on Droits juridiques pour les femmes en Ontario.
