Because of you: Two years of calling for action
On the Friday of a long weekend, more than 70 individuals gathered in Barry’s Bay, ON. Together, they recognized the second anniversary of the Culleton, Kuzyk and Warmerdam (CKW) inquest.
About the gathering
We joined Lanark County Interval House and EVA Renfrew County in hosting a community gathering on Friday June 28, 2024. This gathering marked the second anniversary of the release of the jury recommendations from the CKW inquest.
The event opened at the Opeongo Seniors Centre with a panel presentation by Pamela Cross, Kirsten Mercer and Erin Lee. All three advocates were heavily involved with the inquest in 2022.
The panel presentation focused on:
- the work done so far to support the implementation of the 86 recommendations
- work currently in progress
- work that is yet to come
Following the discussion, attendees gathered around the pebble mosaic for a vigil, including readings, music and a candle art project.
The event ended with a powerful moment of silence honouring Carol, Anastasia and Nathalie and all those affected by intimate partner violence (IPV).
Thank you to everyone who joined us in Barry’s Bay last week. For many of you who joined, you’ve been calling for change for more than two years. Because of you, we are making progress in the fight to end IPV. Your support offers a beacon of hope to women and their children as they leave abuse.
Want to get involved in ending IPV?
It’s been two years since the CKW inquest and there are still many recommendations that haven’t been addressed. Please join us in calling for action! We’re delighted to share an updated version of our advocacy toolkit to help you get involved.
