Emily Murray, Legal Director
Emily has practiced family law since 2015. Prior to joining Luke’s Place in April 2022, Emily worked at a family law boutique firm in Toronto and as a panel lawyer for the Office of the Children’s Lawyer. Emily also summered and articled at the Office of the Children’s Lawyer and worked briefly as in-house counsel at Peel Children’s Aid Society upon her call to the Ontario bar in 2014. Emily has direct experience advocating on behalf of women and children who have been subjected to family violence and understands the difficulties these women face when trying to navigate the legal system.
Emily graduated from Simon Fraser University in 2010 with a Master of Arts degree in Psychology where her research focus was forensic psychology and children’s memory. One of the goals of Emily’s research was to better understand the organization of children’s memory and the compatibility of this organization with current forensic interviewing techniques. Out of a desire to actually work within the legal system she was learning about, Emily attended Osgoode Hall Law School where she sought out work and volunteer opportunities focused on improving access to justice.
Emily joined the Luke’s Place team as Legal Services Director in April 2022. In this role, Emily has been working to expand and enhance the legal services offered by our organization. She has shown a keen interest and passion for the important work we do and is looking forward to taking on this new role at Luke’s Place.
