Emergency Motions Course

The Emergency Motions course explores how to support a woman who may need an emergency motion.

Such a motion allows a woman to ask for a temporary family court order to help resolve an urgent crisis, usually related to her or her children’s immediate safety.

The course walks through our comprehensive Emergency Motions Toolkit. It integrates crisis scenarios, guiding checklists and activities to test your learning.

This course is designed for Ontario service providers who support survivors of intimate partner violence.

The course assumes that you have a general understanding of family law and family court processes. Our course After She Leaves is a recommended prerequisite.

Emergency Motions covers:

  • What emergency motions are
  • The legal procedures and court forms
  • A service provider's role during the application process
  • An overview of the process

The course is self-directed, asynchronous, and consists of six modules. It takes about 3 hours to complete. It consists of captioned videos, short quizzes, and downloadable resources. Transcripts for narration are provided. A certificate is provided upon course completion.
