Woman Abuse Prevention: #LoveShouldntHurt and Wrapped in Courage

November is Woman Abuse Prevention month. Everyday Luke’s Place, and many other organizations, work to prevent further gender-based violence in our communities. Join our efforts!

Here are two campaigns to raise awareness about intimate partner abuse and to support for survivors and their children.

Wrapped in Courage - Woman Abuse Prevention monthOntario-wide: Wrapped in Courage Woman Abuse Prevention Campaign

From the Ontario Association of Interval and Transitional Housing (OAITH)

20-30 women in this province are murdered by a current or former male partner every year…

Shelters in your community play a vital role for survivors through their programs and services.  When women and their children can’t access a VAW shelter or program, it’s the difference between staying in a harmful situation or having a chance at freedom.

Support your local shelter so that women always have a safe place to go when they are being harmed.

Purchase a purple scarf or tie from your local women’s shelter and wear it this winter. Every scarf and effort counts when it comes to the safety and well-being of Ontario’s women and children.

Find a participating shelter.

Durham Region: #LoveShouldntHurt

From the Violence Prevention Coordinating Council (VPCC)

Each year hundreds of women, children and seniors in Durham Region, experience physical, emotional, financial and sexual abuse and violence – all in the name of “love”.

Through this campaign we are encouraging those who live, work and play in Durham Region to take time to learn about the issues of violence against women and to take action to ensure all women live free from abuse and violence in all its forms.

VPCC offers suggestions for how you can make a difference. One way is to donate now to Luke’s Place!
