Emergency Motions Toolkit
For women experiencing intimate partner violence, an Emergency Motion can be a critical step toward ensuring their safety and the safety of their children. However, navigating the Family Court process, especially during a time of crisis, can be overwhelming, with many women feeling unprepared to take this step.
At Luke’s Place, we’ve updated and expanded our Emergency Motions Toolkit in 2022 to better support survivors and the advocates assisting them. This resource offers clear, accessible information on how to effectively file emergency motions in Family Court for a variety of situations.
With the Emergency Motions Toolkit, you will:
- Learn how to identify when or if an Emergency Motion may be appropriate;
- Become familiar with the required forms and how to fill them out;
- Know what information is required to support the Emergency Motion;
- Understand the steps in the process and how to prepare women for it.
This toolkit also includes emergency numbers, safety planning tips, a family history questionnaire, and practical commentary for unrepresented women who may be filing on their own.
