3 more powerful ways judges & lawyers can stop violence
A few days ago, we shared some ideas for how lawyers, judges and other legal system collaborators can join in the collective fight to end GBV. These ideas included seeking out more training and education opportunities on issues of GBV and connecting with local GBV organizations in their community. Below we outline a few additional strategies you can engage in.
- Explore opportunities for advocacy:
If possible, explore ways in which you can advocate for change.
We are always interested in connecting with lawyers and other legal professionals about issues impacting their clients and are eager to hear from lawyers who want to support us in our advocacy work.
- Volunteer your time:
A number of GBV organizations rely on the support and assistance of volunteers. Explore opportunities to work with these organizations, whether through Board positions, fundraising support, or hands-on service delivery.
We rely on the commitment and expertise of volunteer family law lawyers to help deliver legal services to the survivors we support. For more information, visit our website or contact us via email to legalservices@lukesplace.ca.
- Consider financially supporting GBV organizations in your local community:
Many GBV organizations lack adequate and sustainable core funding to deliver their programs and services. They rely on fundraising initiatives to help ensure they can continue to do important and critical work. Your donation makes a big difference.
Our work is rooted in the belief that together we can make a difference. Whether through offering support or raising awareness, every action matters. This Woman Abuse Prevention Month let’s join forces as a community and take a stand for the women who need us. Let’s commit to creating a future where every woman is safe, supported, and empowered to live a life free from abuse.
