Be a voice of change: Support feminist law reform
In recognition of International Women’s Day on March 8th, we dedicated the entire month to our campaign, Voices of Change: Women Shaping Law Reform. Advocacy and law reform are at the heart of our mission. Our organization was born as a community response to a tragedy resulting in the death of a child.
Since opening our doors to women in 2002, we’ve:
- Supported thousands of survivors to navigate family court through support services and resources
- Trained thousands of service providers to improve their understanding of the intersections of intimate partner violence (IPV) and family law
- Developed resources for advocates supporting women leaving abuse
- Engaged in significant research to understand systemic responses to IPV
This work has uniquely positioned us to engage in law reform and advocacy because our work is informed by the voices of survivors and advocates.
Voices of change
There are several ways you can become a Luke’s Place voice of change:
1. Engage in our advocacy
An easy way to engage in our advocacy is to support it! Find us on social media (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X) and like/share/comment on our posts to help us reach more people.
Keep an eye on our blog to see what we are up to! Our blog on LukesPlace.ca is a tool for sharing our work and describing how you can get involved with it.
Check out our advocacy toolkit for tips and information on how to become an advocate. This toolkit was initially created in response to the 86 recommendations from the Culleton, Kuzyk, and Warmerdam inquest.
Register and complete our FREE virtual training, Feminist Law Reform and Feminist Media Leadership. These online advocacy, media capacity, and skills-building e-learnings were developed for frontline VAW workers.
Check out our recent blog to learn more about the initiatives we’re currently involved in.
2. Become a volunteer
We love our volunteers! We offer volunteer opportunities such as legal support volunteers, volunteer lawyers, student placements, and board directors. Visit our website for more information.
3. Invest in our work
Law reform and advocacy are central to our work. Your donation is an investment in ending IPV by providing resources to our feminist law reform and advocacy activities. Donate today!
