Celebrating Pride Month
June is 2SLGBTQIA+ Pride Month, a time to celebrate the diversity, resilience, and contributions of Two-Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual, and other gender and sexually diverse individuals. While Pride is a celebration, it’s also a reminder of the ongoing struggles against discrimination, violence, and systemic barriers faced by the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
Members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community experience higher rates of intimate partner violence (IPV) compared to their heterosexual and cisgender counterparts. This violence can take unique forms, such as threats of “outing,” denial of access to gender-affirming care, or isolation from supportive communities. These experiences are often further complicated by societal stigma and a lack of inclusive support services.
Supporting 2SLGBTQIA+ survivors requires an intersectional approach that recognizes the diverse identities within the community and addresses the specific challenges they face. This includes:
- Creating safe, affirming spaces for support
- Ensuring access to culturally competent services
- Advocating for policies that protect and uplift 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals.
- Using peoples proper/preferred pronouns
- Recognizing trans women are women

As we celebrate Pride, let’s also commit to actions that support the well-being and safety of 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals, particularly those who have experienced gender-based violence. By doing so, we honour the true spirit of Pride, a movement rooted in resistance, resilience, and the pursuit of justice for all.
At Luke’s Place, we are committed to being a welcoming and inclusive space for all 2SLGBTQIA+ women, two-spirited, cisgender, or transgender.
