Ontario’s Winter 2026 Pre-Budget Consultation
Family court processes are complex, adversarial, and frequently inaccessible for survivors of IPV, especially those experiencing economic insecurity, trauma, or ongoing safety concerns. Without stable supports and meaningful access to legal representation, survivors are placed at heightened risk of continued violence, coercive control, and unjust outcomes that undermine both safety and child well-being. Demand for specialized family law and court-based supports continues to grow across Ontario, while many critical services remain under-resourced and reliant on unstable, short-term funding.
For these reasons, Luke’s Place participated in submitting a Winter 2026 Pre-Budget Consultation to the Ontario Government in January.
Luke’s Place is calling on the Government of Ontario to make targeted investments that reflect the realities faced by survivors of intimate partner violence in the family law system. They are follows:
- Provide stable core funding for programs and services that prevent and address gender-based violence in Ontario.
- Prioritize funding for family law support services for survivors of GBV, including the Family Court Support Worker Program.
- Ensure access to legal representation for survivors of GBV in family court.
