Upcoming webinar on Keira’s Law
The Learning Network and Family Violence Family Law is hosting a webinar next Tuesday, July 25th from 1:00pm to 2:30pm on Keira’s Law. Panelists will include Jennifer Kagan, Keira’s mother and lead advocate for the Bill, Archana Medhekar, Certified Family Law specialist, and Pam Cross, Luke’s Place Advocacy Director.
Bill C-233, which is also known as Keira’s law, proposed amendments to the Judges Act to include intimate partner violence and coercive control in the list of topics for judicial education. This important Bill was passed in the spring. According to the description of the webinar on the Learning Network’s website, the session will involve the following:
In this Special Event, panelists discuss the necessity of Keira’s Law given the gap in judicial education and knowledge about family violence and coercive control. Panelists also share more about what the law seeks to do and current realities of judge training in Canada. Finally, panelists share their hopes and wishes for the enactment of the law with the goal to protect more children in the future.
